Limerick Training News

We are still short several positions for the Limerick Exercise in November and the preparation training events. The attached spreadsheet shows team assignments. Voice operators are needed for E. Pikeland, Schuylkill, Uwchlan, and W. Vincent township EOCs. And we need a data operator for W. Pikeland township EOC. I'm hoping John Scoggin's crew will also come through with a team to handle the Spring City EOC and the needed data relay to there.

Please sign up for one of these spots if you haven't already. Go to http://www.w3eoc.org and click the link to the signup form.

The spreadsheet also includes all the planned training dates. Please add them to your calendar now!

We are ready for the special Tech Rally this Saturday at 8:30 AM (RACES Room 026 at the GSC). We will cover high speed data using the ID-1, which I hope most teams will be able to use this year (equipment should be available). We will use the Pocopson DD repeater and gateway along with the new County-owned portable stations for the hands-on exercises. Pre-testing shows that the network is working well after some needed configuration changes. Looking forward, we will be working around more changes that are planned at Bucktown (new hardware installations), but we plan to have everything stable for training there before fall is too far along.

If you have signed up, we need your attendance at this special Tech Rally. There will be a reprise of the meeting (or extension if needed) on Wednesday evening at 6:30 PM, same place. Let's make the most of our limited training time and please try to attend BOTH meetings!

Once teams feel confident in using the high-speed network and exchanging messages, additional dates will have us solving problems in propagation and special field station issues. It's all hands-on, and it's all fun. This should be a fun learning experience for all. (And it's a heck of a lot easier than packet radio!)

See you Saturday morning, rain or shine!

This is a big(!) bike touring event led by Lance Armstrong and his organization for cancer research. It uses regional amateur radio resources. Excellent practice to keep your EmComm operating skills sharp!
